Finished scrunchie

Quick and easy crochet projects are my go-to because I adore the satisfaction I get when I complete a project. Let's face it: Some projects take far longer than others, and we need that little boost of serotonin in between.

This crochet pattern is super easy and it is suitable for even a beginner, as long as you know how to do treble crochet. I use American crochet terms in all of my work, as those are the terms I learnt with when I taught myself 18 years ago now. You can use this pattern with any type of yarn, from velvet to chenille and all the yarns in between; but please remember that you will need to either add or take away treble crochet stitches depending on the yarn and hook you use.

My favourite yarn to use for these velvet scrunchies is Bernat velvet yarn. You can make around five scrunchies per 100g, but this will vary based on your tension. so that is a lot of scrunchies for your money. I recommend using a hair tie that doesn't have any metal piece in it, but you can use those if it's all you can find.

Hair Ties

Bernat Velvet Yarn in your favourite colours

6mm Crochet Hook

Scissors

Darning Needle

Terminology (US)

SL ST - Slip Stitch

CH - Chain Stitch

TRBL - Treble Crochet

Round 1: Loop yarn over your hook and insert hook through the hair tie and CH 4, this will help secure the yarn to the hair tie. (See pic 1 & 2) Alternatively, you can tie the yarn on the hair band and then CH 3.

Round 2: TRBL 35-40 times over the hair tie, depending on how full you want your scrunchie, then SLST to the top of the first TR to close (See pic 4). CH1, cut your yarn and pull through the CH to secure. Weave in your end using your Darning needle.
